This town is the starting point for to go ahead, heading east into Dolpa. North Humla & West into Bajura. The new Karnali technical School is on the outskirts of town. Jumla retains an atmosphere of almost total inertia and bustling. The culture center of the town is the f Chandan Nath Temple, from within where, can is heard bell ringing & conch blowing. Ritual pujas are done there every afternoon. The inhabitants of Jumla are mainly high-castes Thkuri & Chettrie Hindus who do not like working as porters.

There are two routes to Rara from Jumla- via Bumri to the east or Sinja to the West. The eastern route is the shorter & lower of the two, is a little bit strenuous. Rara Lake one of the best destinations for trekking in western Nepal, is surrounded by Rara National park. The route is well off the beaten foot track and affords glimpses of culture and scenery very different from the other parts of Nepal. The trek offers a exquisite display of clear high altitude lakes associated with pine, spruce and juniper forests and breath taking views of the snow capped Himalayan peaks.

Rara Lake is as deep as 167 meters in some of its places, and merges into the river Mugu Karnali via Nijar Khola. The Rara National Park is the home of endangered red panda, common langur, and rhesus species. Rhododendron, juniper and etc Himalayan flowers are available here a lot. Jumla, one of the highest area's rice- growing areas in Nepal is located on the banks of the Tila Khola at the height of 2370 meters. The most common way to get over to Rara is to take a flight from Nepalgunj to Jumla.
